Lower windows are heavy

Jim had a day off from clam digging and came and helped put in the big lower windows. What a guy. With the extra help they went in quick. See how high Jim is up on the ladder. The house is so high that Mike found that his cell phone will get service up on the roof.

Windows!!!

The house is now ready to start looking like a house instead of a big wooden box. The roof is on and the windows go in. I love how it looks. Now, time to rest, right??? Nope. Started meeting with the subs this week. The mechanicals will start going in. My next tasks are the stairs, so we can get the tub upstairs, and then the outside trim and siding.

installing trusses and sheathing

Trusses

The trusses arrive. They go up quick.... when the wind isn't blowing. Boy, does the house seem tall when you're on top

and more

mor second floor pics

We've had a very windy, rainy spring. I've been so busy getting the house framed in that my computer has been collecting dust. Second floor framing went fairly quick, but the sheathing and trusses took some time, since we were fighting the wind. Funny, sheets of plywood act like sails!!! For some reason, the guys didn't want to take up hang gliding with the plywood. In time the walls got sheathed and ready for the trusses

More walls and big beams

Things are going good. Two of the neighbor guys stopped by and helped us get up the big beams. There are 2 sandwiched together. One 12"x5 1/2"x 20', and one 12"x3 1/2" x20'. It took alot of umph to get them up, and all I could do was watch.... darn knee!!! Downstairs interior walls are in (did I say diagonal walls were fun??? Silly me!). I joists and 2nd floor are almost all in. Getting ready for trusses next week.

I'm back

I was out for two weeks with my knee injury, but now I'm back, with a resolve to wear my knee brace for the duration of the building project. The walls are going up and all the neighbors are stopping by to see what's going on.
